Rachel's Spring Wedding at Old House Vineyards

October 5, 2016

I think Rachel's wedding this past April at Old House Vineyards is one of my favorites so far this year.  I was fortunate to do her hair for her big day and the hair of some of her bridesmaids.  When she came in for her first trial, she was undecided about whether she wanted her hair all up or some of it down.  The ceremony was on a small island on the property, and she was concerned with wind.  So, we opted to test out the updo from her inspiration images.  At the end of the trial, we both really liked the results but also agreed to a few tweaks for the big day.  She had a big pack of extensions to add extra fullness to the style, as it was very bold and romantic with lots of little tendrils.  I wish I'd saved that trial image until now, but after the wedding I ended up deleting is as she went with the style we did at a second trial.

Rachel isn't the first bride to do two trials, and she won't be my last I'm sure.  Especially when a trial is done many months in advance of a wedding, style preferences can change, and many brides choose an updo due to pressure from friends or family members or out of concern for comfort on their big day.  I try my best to gauge what's really fueling this want of an updo, but ultimately I'll do the bride's hair however she asks for it.  I'm so thankful Rachel decided that she did want some of her hair down, as that's how she's used to wearing it, and it suited her much better.  The style she chose was amazing, and I loved creating my own version of the inspiration image she showed me.  It worked great with her extensions, and it really showed off her hair piece and framed those gorgeous eyes of hers.  In the end she looked simply breathtaking.

Here is the inspiration image alongside what we created for the big day.

And now for the professional images by the amazing talented Sarah Houston Photography, a dear friend of mine.  I'm always so thrilled to find out she's the photographer at weddings I do, because I know I'm going to get stunning images to use for my website and social media.  If you're looking for a photographer, go check her out!
